The CCH Business Owner's Toolkit contains resources for the small business owner. There is a lot of advertising on this site, but you can "Ask Alice" any question and get an answer. Previously asked questions and her answers are available. The site links to free SCORE E-mail counseling.

The Tennessee Department of Economic And Community Development has put together a lot of helpful information for small businesses under Business Support Programs.

Helpful Small Business Administration (SBA) Web Sites

Gives the SBA's definition of a "small business" and lists the steps in starting one. A Startup Kit includes information on finding the money you need; a section on Financing describes loan programs and provides loan forms.

Has a user-friendly Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section that explains the SBA 8(a) Business Development Program- a program created to help small disadvantaged businesses compete.

An FAQ section explains the difference between 8(a) certification and Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) certification and lists the benefits of the SDB program.. Also shows how to apply for SDB certification.

The FAQ section explains what the HUBZone Empowerment Program is and how a firm can qualify for participation. Shows all the HUBZones in your state and tells you if you're in one.

Within SBA, PRO-Net has been superseded by the Small Business Source System (SBSS), an internal database of firms certified by SBA under the 8(a) Business Development and HUBZone programs, and as Small Disadvantage Businesses. The SBSS will populate those fields in CCR. The SBSS will automatically review the NAICS codes supplied by a firm and perform calculations against each NAICS code size standard to determine which NAICS codes the firm qualifies as a small business, based on employment and revenue information entered into CCR.
